AN ORISSA ODYSSEY

Orissa, the ancient land of the Kalinga Kings, lies along the eastern sea board of the Bay Of Bengal. Vast stretches of sandy beaches, serene & peaceful, Gopalpur-On-Sea, Puri & Konarak offer idyllic beac holidays. Splendid temples embellished with intricate carvings are one of the main attractions of this delightful eastern state, edged by the hills of the Eastern Ghats. The temples of Bhubaneshwar, Puri & the unusual architecture of the Sun Temple at Konarak, all three in close proximity to the other, make a delightful Orissan Odyssey. It is in Konark, with the Sun Temple to compliment the festival that the Dance Festival is performed on the beaches of Konarak. If you are an early rises, you may be able to watch the danseuse’ practice on the beaches along the sea

Day    Programme

  1. Arrive Delhi. Meet & transfer to hotel for overnight

  2. Breakfast. Full day tour of Old & New Delhi. Overnight in hotel

  3. Breakfast. Transfer to airport for flight to Bhubaneswar. On arrival transfer to hotel. The history of this temple city goes back to 2200 years with its ornately carved temples. Afternoon visit Khandagiri and Udaygiri rock cut cave temples. Return to hotel for overnight.

  4. Breakfast. Morning tour of Lingaraja Temple, Parasurameshwara Temple, Mukteshwar Temple, Raja Rani Temple and Brahmeshwara Temple. Thereafter drive to Puri Beach Resort. Check in to hotel.
    At leisure, optional visit the 12th century Jagannath Temple , famous for the Chariot Festival “ Rath Yatra” held around the month of July.

  5. Breakfast. Morning at leisure on the beach. Afternoon drive to Konarak.

    Tour of the 13th Century Konrak Sun Temple. The edifice rises dramatically out of the sand dunes on Konarak Beach. The temple was concieved as a vehicle for the Sun God Surya, for His celestial journey across the sky.

    The temple is shaped in the form of a magnificently carved chariot with 24 wheels and drawn by 7 scultured horses. Evening watch the floodlight Konarak Dance Festival with the Sun Temple as a back drop. Some of India’s top notch names in classical dancing perform at the festival, each an exponent in its own discipline of Odyssey, Kathakali, Bharat Natyam, Kuchipudi etc. Return to beach resort in Puri ( Since Konarak does not accommodation with adequately comfortable facilities you will commute between Puri & Konarak for the festival)

  6. Breakfast. Day at leisure on the beach at Konarak. Evening attend the Dance Festival. Return to Puri resort for overnight

  7. Breakfast. Drive to Bhubaneshwar Airport to connect flight to Delhi OR Mumbai for onward flight connection
